What should I consider when purchasing a lightbox?

There are 4 major variables to consider when buying a lightbox:

 

  • Size– the size of the lightbox will determine which lighting solutions will work best with the frame. Ex: a larger lightbox means more distance that the light must travel.
  • Brightness– the brightness of the environment will determine if the lightbox should be half-lit or full-lit. Adjusting the brightness of a lightbox can enhance the aesthetic of your space.
  • Single or Double Sided– the location of the lightbox will determine if it needs to be double or single sided. Ex: if you want a bright window display, a double-sided full-lit lightbox will probably be the best solution to enhance both in-store and curb appeal
  • Cost– the cost of the lightbox will be determined by the size, lighting solution, accessories, and more. Considering these additions, with their cost in mind, will help determine what solution is best for you!

Modular displays are merchandising solutions that are flexible and maximize functionality. Our modular displays collection offers the option to resize your shop-in-shop, pop-up shop, or merchandising display to be larger or smaller, depending on the size of the retail or tradeshow space. What is SEG Systems’ process?

First, we’ll talk through what you’re looking for and design the perfect solution for your brand.

Our estimating team will price out the design and send it over to the engineering team- they will ensure that your project is ready for production.

Then, you’ll be paired with one of our dedicated project managers that will oversee your project through every step of its journey.

In the shop, we’ll cut and clean the frames, add lighting, and insert graphics. All frames are tested in-house by our quality control team, guaranteeing that your project is exactly as designed.

After that, the final product will be packaged in custom boxes or crates and then shipped out.

Last step is installation- most of our frames can be assembled at an associate level, but we also offer professional installation for more complex projects!

US Foods Millwork Booth

US Foods Millwork Booth – Talking Shop with SEG

US Foods, a proud partner of the Austin Food and Wine Festival and one of the largest food service distributors in the country, was looking to create a tradeshow booth that had modern conveniences with the warmth of Texan hospitality.  To bring this to life, SEG Systems created a one-of-a-kind tradeshow booth that would personify its brand and drive customer engagement.

Vintage Barrels and reclaimed wood locally sourced

SEG Systems ensured every component of the millwork booth was authentic to the Texas event- from the repurposed vintage bourbon barrels, down to the finish on the screws. The wooden elements were constructed from reclaimed wood while the metal screws, brackets, and hangers were soaked in table salt and white vinegar to create a patina, amplifying the rustic appeal of the millwork booth.  

To maximize functionality, the back wall was constructed into five separate wall sections that were strategically cut to create the illusion of one seamless back wall. Each section was customized with hidden panels to conceal the connection points that secured the sections in place. The hidden panels were created using 325 Zero Side Mounts and 210 locks that sat behind the panel and could be accessed by simply pushing on the panel.  Segmenting the wall offers modular options to resize the booth to be larger or smaller for different sized tradeshow events. It also saves on shipping costs and optimizes mobility by making the build and tear down process more manageable.

Raw butcher block countertops were glued, clamped, sized, and treated with Tung oil

For additional product storage, wooden crates were hung on the back wall and shelves were installed under the countertops, hidden by sliding doors. The counters were made from raw butcher block and treated with Tung oil to ensure they were food safe, non-toxic, and eco-friendly.

Modular Tradeshow Booth – Maximizing Flexibility

 

The US Foods’ tradeshow booth was built to last for years by integrating customizable signage. The side of the millwork booth features detachable, centra graphics that are mounted with Velcro strips- offering the option to easily switch out graphics. A SEG fabric frame is attached to the back wall using threaded inserts so the frame can be easily added and removed. The graphic is a dye-sublimated fabric with a thin silicone gasket, sewn around the perimeter of the graphic-resulting in a frameless-like appearance that’s interchangeable. Incorporating adaptable features ensures that the tradeshow booth will be timeless and last for years!

Because of the flexibility in sizing, this 10 x 20-foot millwork booth was compacted into just three crates. SEG Systems’ custom crate building offers shipping solutions that ensures the product arrives as perfect as it gets shipped out.

Utilizing repurposed wood was more than just fulfilling a visual aesthetic. It also served as a metaphor for the US Foods’ purpose as a company: repurposing bland recipes by transforming them into modern, gourmet cuisines. SEG Systems embraced this objective by sourcing recycled wood from sustainable vendors and transforming it into a modern experience with a vintage feel.

Metal is a highly preferred material due to its quality and durability. Because of this, it’s commonly used for foundational support: from entire structural environments to the smallest of accessories to enhance stability, customization, and strength. Using metal also promotes sustainability because leftover metal can be recycled and reused. On average, SEG Systems recycles 3,450 pounds of aluminum per month!

Pickens has been working in the metal fabrication industry for 45 years, with a background in defense vehicles along with automotive prototyping and racing.

Since Pickens started his metal fabrication career, the manufacturing industry has shifted from being built by hand to being built by machines. Today, almost every manufacturing department depends on machinery to get a job done accurately and on time. “Metal fabrication uses CAD drawings and laser machines to make their process easier, but the custom jobs are still being hand-crafted,” says Pickens. “We get the chance to be more involved with the product because of the meticulous, hands-on steps like drilling, bending, welding, and making custom brackets.”

“In less than three weeks, we built 200 wheels and axels for Fresh Market carts, all made from scratch. This job was complicated because it was a lot to build in a very short amount of time,” says Bill Pickens. To create perfectly round and functioning wheels, the metal was cut, formed, machined, and welded by our fabricators’ hands.

These HDU foam letters were brushed with an aluminum laminate face, which offers an upscale look without the cost of solid metal letters. The visual appeal of a display can be enhanced by adding one of our 1000+ powder coated colors and finishes including brushed gold, polished gold, brushed silver, polished silver, and brushed copper. Adding this extra layer also improves durability and strength.

This entirely custom, metal structure was constructed as a traveling pop-up at Under Armour activations and professional sporting events nationwide. The display was carefully designed to withstand thousands of active attendees while also being modular and lightweight to travel from event to event.

This tubular, suspended frame was built to maintain the structure’s shape when hoisted above the runway. Using a metal frame provided a light-weight solution that ensured the cables would support the structure as it’s suspended from the ceiling.

When We Say Custom, We Mean It

Our customer wanted a custom, one-of-a-kind focal point for their foyer to enhance the warm and natural aesthetics in their offices, and we delivered just that. Sitting at 31 feet long and 2800 pounds, this massive receptionist desk is one of our most complex millwork pieces yet!

Wood Substructure

The desk consists of over 325 pieces of quarter sawn, white oak veneer. Each piece was individually cut and hand laid to create the look of seamless grain around the radius.

Millwork Cleanup and Finishing

This one-of-a-kind design has a helical shape with varying compound radius’ throughout the structure. Not to mention, these curved millwork pieces surround the entire desk-front to back. In simpler terms, this desk has “more curves than a Kardashian.”

On-site Installation

We assembled and installed the receptionist desk in the ONE Independence Center in Charlotte, NC.  To complete the modern look, we installed a granite top and RGB LED lighting. 

To make custom-built millwork projects like this possible, we’ve dedicated an entire section of our 100,000 sq. ft. shop to millwork alone, which includes our CNC machinery. Our skilled artisans craft these pieces in-house with their own hands, ensuring that your custom project is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art as much as it is functional.
